Vocational integration of Travelling People in Europe

"TRAVELLING WOMEN"

The project has been devoted to professional and social integration of Travelling People for two years.
For the third year the partners had decided to make a special and new study about the specific situation of Travelling Women.

The study has been carried out in two stages :
The first one is related to the situation of the Travelling Women situation in the partners' countries.
The second one aims to reflect about some ways to improve the vocational training and professional integration of Travelling Women.

For the first step, different people have been interviewed : mediators, social workers and Traveling Women themselves. In different countries involved in the project the partnership have found a lot of similarities and some differences.

It emerged from the interviews that the main issues to take into account are :

  • illiteracy
  • mobility
  • independence
  • care of chidren
  • interest of the job
  • influence of husbands
  • useful activity
  • help of administrations
  • social isolation/integration/discrimination
  • language
  • situation of the young women in the family
  • lack of links between school and training courses
  • lack of links between skills and labour market needs
  • absenteeism

The partners have thought about some proposals.
